Reusing with Yoda!

Reusing with Yoda!

I've been teaching private English lessons to two students ages five and seven. Thankfully I am given the flexibility to teach in a variety of ways including science experiments, cooking lessons, and a mix between science and art! Today my students and I discussed the re prefix, and the numerous ways in which we can reuse items such as milk cartons to create....Yoda money banks! We used double sided tape to adhere the craft paper to the cartons while we made conversation using vocabulary on topics such as body parts, Star Wars, money, preposition of place, and procedural directions to construct our money banks. The kids had a great time. All the while they practiced their English language skills.

Before we covered the milk carton with the craft paper, we cut an opening in the bottom back of the of the carton to retrieve the money. We also rinsed and dried the cartons prior to completing this activity. Below is an example of the carton we used before we detached the upper flaps which created Yoda's ears.
